iTrapshooter.com:  In the ’69 Grand, the first year they added the interruptor, there were hundreds of people that were shooting two hundred straight.  Then during the shoot-off they had the interrupters on the traps and more than half of them missed at least one out of the first twenty-five because they didn’t know where the target would be.

Britt:  Remember what I said, how do you know what goes on with people when they get in the shoot-off?  Or, the difference in the way I handle pressure, the difference in the way Bonillas handles pressure, the difference in the way Stafford, the difference in the way Leo, or anybody like that.  What makes them able to concentrate and stay more focused then somebody else?

iTrapshooter.com:  The mental discipline?

Britt:  I’m telling you it always goes back to that.  If everybody could concentrate and shoot a shotgun, you’d have fifty million Leo Harrison’s.  It doesn’t happen.  I don’t know why the good Lord gave it to Leo, or gave it to me, or gave it to Bonillas or Stafford or anybody like that , but you can’t give that to somebody.  To say just because they put the interrupters on it?  You can put an interruptor on it and  you could take Bonillas, Stafford and Leo and we were all shooting like that (winning).  The scores in the handicap, like in the 70’s at Bob Taylor’s when he was throwing the 3 hole targets, that’s the only two hundred straight that’s ever been broke off of  3 hole targets.  Up until then, to the early 70’s. He was throwing fifty, fifty-two yard targets in the 3 hole when I broke that two hundred and forty-some.  That was the first time it had ever been  done.   You tell me why more people break two hundreds.

(A pause when Britt receives a family visitor)

Britt:  Getting back to…that one year there, I mean why didn’t people break that many good scores?  Plus, the shells are faster then what they were, plus the wads are better, there’s more guns that have adjustments.  I used to have to bend my barrels to get the point of impact that you want.  Some people don’t. Look at all the guns now that have adjustable points of impact, adjustable comb, there wasn’t all of that when we were shooting back in the 60’s, the 70’s. It’s like NASCAR, there’s so many more things they can put on a car and do to it to make it handle right.
